The Grande Traversata delle Alpi is a hiking route that joins all the western Alpine arch in the Piedmont region and is articulated on a dense network of trail and stages. The complessive route of GTA forms an itinerary of 1000 km, a great trekking of the Piedmont mountains. Every stage of GTA involves five to eight hours of walk, normally on a mule tracks and easy paths that allow you to go downhill in the valley, making the most accessible passes. The trails are identified by the white and red markings and also by metal flags bearing the GTA logo. At the end of each stage you will find the accomodation facilities of the GTA or the refugees of the Italian Alpine Club.
