This map from MichiganTrailMaps.com covers Indian Portage Trail and East Chickenbone Trail on Isle Royale National Park. Originally used by Native Americans to portage their birchbark canoes across the island, Indian Portage Trail extends 11.1 miles from Chippewa Harbor to McCargoe Cove. The northern portion from Lake Richie to McCargoe Cove is a popular route used by anglers, hikers, and canoeists. The southern portion is not as popular as it dead-ends at Chippewa Harbor. The 1.6-mile East Chickenbone Trail begins 0.7 miles from McCargoe Cove Campground and swings around the east end of Chickenbone Lake to the Greenstone Ridge Trail. It is often combined with part of the Greenstone and Indian Portage trails for a pleasant 7-mile day hike around Chickenbone Lake from McCargoe Cove. The Indian Portage Trail Trail Map also covers Lake Mason Trail and portions of the Greenstone Ridge Trail and the Minong Ridge Trail. The map includes: --10-foot contour lines --All adjoining trails and campgrounds --Amenity icons --Mileage flags marking the Indian Portage and East Chickenbone Trails.
