The Minong Ridge Trail is a 29-mile route along the north shore of Isle Royale National Park. The trail is not only the park's most challenging hike but arguably the hardest backpacking trek in Michigan. Part of the challenge is the amount of time needed to hike it. The trail itself is a three to four-day walk from McCargoe Cove Campground to Windigo. But most backpackers also need another two days to reach McCargoe Cove from Rock Harbor. Although the final segment of the Minong Ridge Trail from North Lake Desor to Washington Creek Campground is not as difficult as previous segments along the ridge, it is the longest one and requires a full day with a backpack on. This stretch can get confusing when it crosses a couple of beaver ponds. You will also need to keep your eye out for the occasional cairn when following the bare rock ridge. This is the third map in the Minong Ridge Trail series produced by MichiganTrailMaps.com and covers the 12.6-mile stretch from North Lake Desor Campground to Washington Creek Campground at Windigo. This map features: --10-foot contour lines --All adjoining trails and campgrounds --Amenity icons --Mileage flags marking the Minong Ridge Trail For photos and complete trip information for the Minong Ridge Trail or Isle Royale National Park go to the MichiganTrailMaps.com website at www.michigantrailmaps.com/member-detail/isle-royale-np-minong-ridge-trail-map-3
