These maps are derived from the award winning Heysen Trail map sheet series, published by Department for Environment and Water. The four maps in sheet 8 in this leg of the trail features some of the most scenic range country along the Heysen Trail. The initial walk along Mernmerna Creek leads to Arkaba Station shadowed by the Elder Range. The trail meanders along Salty Creek and Red Range before heading over the edge of Wilpena Pound into Flinders Ranges National Park. The only places with facilities are Wilpena Pound at the southern end and Angorichina Gorge and Blinman in the north. Blinman and Parachilna are about a day's walk of the trail so you will need to be well equipped and self-sufficient if you are planning to walk the section in one go. The section is 110 kilometres. The distance of this section is 32 kilometres. Terrain: Gradual Climb out of Black Gap to a steep ascent into Wilpena Pound. Rocky ground makes way to flat walking in the Pound to Wilpena. Undulating vehicle tracks are followed until a narrow trail crosses the ABC Range and Bunyeroo Valley.
