The United States Congress designated the Ansel Adams Wilderness in 1964 and it now has a total of 231,279 acres. All of this wilderness is located in California and is located inside the Sierra National Forest, the Inyo National Forest and Devils Postpile National Monument. The Ansel Adams Wilderness is bordered by the Yosemite Wilderness to the north and the John Muir Wilderness to the southeast. The United States Congress designated the14,726 acre Owens River Headwaters Wilderness in 2009. The wilderness is located entirely in the Inyo National Forest adjacent to and east of the Ansel Adams wilderness. This 1 inch = 1 mile scale map shows 100 ft contour lines, shaded relief, forest cover, trails, roads, recreation opportunities, lakes, rivers and numerous survey points and boundaries. This map is to be used with the Inyo & Sierra National Forests Motor Vehicle Use Maps (MVUM). The MVUM shows the National Forest System roads, National Forest System trails, and the areas on the National Forest System lands in the Inyo & Sierra National Forests that are designated for motor vehicle use pursuant to 36 CFR 212.51. National Forest road, trail and area users must comply with the MVUM, as well as Federal, State and local laws and regulations. Compliance with these rules is the responsibility of the user.
