Valle Isorno hiking map 1:25000 n.12

Thanks to the collaboration of “Club Alpino Italiano” of Varallo - EstMonterosa, and “Corpo Nazionale di Soccorso Alpino e Speleologico” of Piedmont Region, Geo4Map offers precise and updated mapping of the foothpaths. Clear mapping, contour lines every 20 metres and trail finders enable hikers and active outdoor lovers to choose and tackle routes in full safety. Although having no permanent settlments, the Valle Isorno is the seventh valley in the Ossola region: a rugged but fascinating valley, where rocks and pastures combine into an evocative landscape that leaves the visitor feeling marvelled. During the ice age, the glacier was not able to move significantly towards the valley due to the presence of the Toce glacier. As a consequence, the lower part of the valley is now characterised by steep cliffs, carved by the flowing water, while the upper part features glacier corries with wider pastures and small lakes. At the entrance to the valley lie the various hamlets that make up the village of Montecrestese, with their stone houses full of history and strategic sun facing position. The Valle Isorno was to the inhabitants of Montecrestese the natural gateway for a profitable agricultural economy, its sunny position making it a favourite also with the aristocrats of the time, who often fought to gain possession of these lands. Together with the villages of Masera and Trontano, Montecrestese forms the area known as the “Ossola Riviera”, for its favourable weather conditions, due to its south-facing position and protection from the wind afforded by the mountains behind it. This position makes the area suitable also for wine growing. The Valle Isorno overlooks the villages of Masera and Trontano, the gateway to the Valle Vigezzo, who was formed by the two side glaciers – the Toce glacier to the north and the Ticino glacier to the south – which penetrated into the channel between the mountains depositing rocks and sediments and eventually forming two plateaus crossed by two rivers, both called Melezzo, running in two opposite directions. The Val Vigezzo is a temperate place, with not very high peaks, whose inhabitants have been able to skillfully combine the environment and art, leading to the valley now being known as the Valley of Painters and Chimney Sweepers. printed maps available:
