Valle Anzasca is one of the crossing valleys of Val d’Ossola: it encircles the slopes of the west side of Monte Rosa, among the Alpi Pennine. The torrent Anza passes through the Valle for its whole length, flowing into the Toce river near Piedimulera. The Bassa Valle Anzasca is the portion of the valley closer to the Toce river that, together with modelling the ridges of the valley along the centuries through the morainic sediments of glaciers, supported the cultivations and thus the human settlements. Agriculture and breeding allowed for flourishing commercial activities with the surrounding valleys, thus giving rise to cultural and religious relationships between the communities. The Valle is also dotted with a lot of mines, some of them are open to tourists, representing the heritage of the widespread mining activity that for a long period of time was the centerpiece of the local economy. The local cultural heritage and traditions today charm the tourists, thanks to the many churches and chapels, wonderful archaeological sites and folkloristic celebrations featured by the exhibitions of the Milizie tradizionali (Traditional Troops), reviving the ancient customs of the Valle.
