Valle Anzasca is one of the crossing valleys of Val d’Ossola: it encircles the slopes of the west side of Monte Rosa, among the Alpi Pennine. The torrent Anza passes through the Valle for its whole length, flowing into the Toce river near Piedimulera. The Alta Valle Anzasca is the portion of the valley closer to Monte Rosa, surrounded by Pizzo Bianco, Palone Badile, Pizzo Moriana and Pizzo Tignaga on one side and by Joderhorn, Pizzo Antigene, Punta Laugera and Pizzo San Martino on the other. Typical high mountain flora and fauna are found in the Valle, protected inside the Oasi Faunistica of Macugnaga (Wildlife Oasis of Macugnaga), where it is possible to organize hiking tours delved in nature and admire ibex, chamois, marmot and many other animals. The gold mining industry has been at the foundation of the economy of the Valle for many years: several mines are found in the area, some of them are open to tourists. For this reason the Valle is nicknamed Valle dell'Oro (Gold Valley). The local cultural heritage is strongly influenced by language and traditions of Walser, a German population that set up in Macugnaga in the XII century. Traditional Walser architecture is still found in the local houses and during folkloristic celebrations Walser costumes are used. printed maps available: https://www.libreriageografica.com/
