Kenai Peninsula Winter Recreation Map

What's new:

Minor content update.

WELCOME TO THE CHUGACH NATIONAL FOREST This map shows areas where winter-motorized use is allowed on the Kenai Peninsula, Chugach National Forest. Winter is one of the best seasons for exploring the Forest, when a thick blanket of snow covers many areas of dense brush. Many people put on skis or snowshoes but for those who like more speed, hopping on a snowmachine in the Forest backcountry is a popular and much anticipated winter activity. MOTORIZED USE ON THE FOREST Much of the Forest is open to winter motorized use December 1 to April 30, if snow conditions allow. Some areas have date restrictions or are permanently closed due to wildlife and habitat considerations. The Forest issues Emergency Closure Orders if an area changes status during the season. Verify the areas you plan to ride in are open to motorized use before you head out by visiting,, or by calling one of our offices. The Forest also posts Closure Orders at trailheads.
