Point Pinos and Coral Street Beach

At the very tip of the Monterey Peninsula is Point Pinos jutting out into the Pacific. With no protection from the open ocean, it bears the brunt of sea and weather which is why dive boats steaming for the protected dive sites in Carmel will often turn around here rather than brave the even rougher seas that are certainly just beyond it to the West. This site is sometimes called "Sewer Plant Beach" for the thankfully inactive waste water treatment discharge just inland. The unappealing name and the rough conditions are both likely reasons why a diver coming to try this site won't have much company. For the intrepid shore diver however, the rugged shore is a fun challenge.
