This popular hike in Shenandoah National Park follows a very challenging ascent up White Oak Canyon, known for its picturesque waterfalls and swimming pools. Descend steep, rocky Cedar Run for a quieter beauty with the perfect water slide into a deep, relaxing pool. If entering from the Park boundary, a parking lot is available off Weakley Hollow Road (VA-643). This hike an also be accessed from the designated parking area along Skyline Drive, around mile marker 45.5. Be prepared to pay the Shenandoah National Park entrance fee. The yellow highlight is used to illustrate the recommended route (8.5 miles, 2800' ascent). Look for blue-blazed Whiteoak Canyon Trail to the right of the ranger station. Bear right to stay on Whiteoak Canyon Trail. Continue, passing the Skyland-Big Meadows Horse Trail on the right. Then, turn left onto yellow-blazed Skyland-Big Meadows Horse Trail. Turn left onto blue-blazed Cedar Run Trail. Continue, passing Whiteoak – Cedar Run Link Trail on the left. Turn right to continue to parking.
