This hike (3.4 miles, 900' ascent) follows the Appalachian Trail up to an incredible view from Buzzard Hill, with some steep sections along the way. Stop to admire the Hollow Brooks cascades. Abide by “no parking” signs on Morgans Mill Road (VA-605) and look for designated parking area. The yellow highlight is used to illustrate the recommended route. From parking, look for white blazes and turn left to head northbound on the AT. About a mile from the trailhead, cross a stream and go right to/from a vague social trail to enjoy several cascades. Watch your step. Turn right to continue northbound on the AT, passing ruins and two campsites. Head left to/from Buzzard Hill. This is a good stopping place for lunch. Turn right on the AT to retrace steps southbound to return to parking. Through volunteer efforts, education and advocacy, the Potomac Appalachian Trail Club (PATC) maintains and protects a section of the Appalachian Trail, in addition to the Tuscarora and other nearby trails and trail lands, in the Mid-Atlantic region for the enjoyment of present and future hikers.
