This short hike (2.1 miles, 500' ascent) into Shenandoah National Park leads to a delightful swimming hole along Overall Run. The creek runs over smooth rocks that act as miniature slides. Shoulder parking for up to 10 cars is available off VA-630. The yellow highlight is used to illustrate the recommended route. After parking, continue along VA-630. Turn right onto blue-blazed Thompson Hollow Trail. Continue straight at the junction with the Tuscarora Trail. Turn right onto Overall Run Trail at the “T” junction when the Tuscarora/Overall Run Trails go left. Optionally, take a left to/from a social trail to a swimming hole in about a tenth of a mile. Turn right to retrace steps on Overall Run/Tuscarora Trails; left to retrace Tuscarora/Thompson Hollow Trails; straight at junction and left on VA-630 to return to cars. Through volunteer efforts, education and advocacy, the Potomac Appalachian Trail Club (PATC) maintains and protects a section of the Appalachian Trail, in addition to the Tuscarora and other nearby trails and trail lands, in the Mid-Atlantic region for the enjoyment of present and future hikers. Visit www.patc.net to learn more about our mission and find volunteer opportunities.
