Fruithaven Nature Preserve is linked to Upper Herring Lake Nature Preserve and together they protect 256 acres of the Herring Lakes Watershed in Benzie County. Other than an old farm field and the hardwood wetlands in the Herring Creek floodplain, Fruithaven is a broken terrain of ridges and valleys covered by a mesic northern forest of predominately sugar maples, American beech and hemlocks. In 2014, the Grand Traverse Regional Land Conservancy built a 0.7-mile loop from the trailhead on Herron Road that utilizes footpaths and a short segment of a two-track. While the loop features almost 100 feet in elevation, the climbs are gentle and reward hikers, and in the winter snowshoers, a view of Upper Herring Lake. This map, produced by MichiganTrailMaps.com, includes: --10-foot contour lines --Location of the trail, other two-tracks in the preserve and a boat launch on Upper Herring Lake --Mileage flags marking the round-trip hike of 0.7 miles into the preserve Along with photos, you can get a mile-by-mile description of the trail from MichiganTrailMaps.com at https://www.michigantrailmaps.com/member-detail/fruithaven-nature-preserve/
