New Trails
Hello, I am the land use manager for the Minnesota 4 Wheel Drive Association (MN4WDA). We have been working on new trails in the area just north of Gilbert, MN. We are referring to the area as the Virginia Expansion. Over the last few months we have been using GPS to flag new trail routes. The flagging is not only to provide a projected route but also for survey teams to complete their cultural review prior to clearing brush for the new trails. We are using Avenza with downloaded maps that have a GPS "line" layed down by the ISFS. We have ran into issues a few times with the center line being 20-30 feet off a few times. It is important that we follow the proposed trail routes due to areas we need to stay clear of mostly due to plants. So far Avenza has been our tool in the woods and has been working well enough. We are now using several GPS mapping apps and comparing data to see which ap is closest to the proposed route.
