Platte Plains Trail is a 15-mile network of trails that features Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore's only walk-in campground on the mainland. The shortest route to White Pine Campground is a 1.2-mile walk that begins at the end of Peterson Road. But the most scenic route begins at Platte River Campground and is commonly referred to as the Lasso Loop. This hike is a 7.2-mile walk, with White Pine Campground reached within 2.8 miles. With its easy hiking and ban on mountain bike use, Platte Plains is one of the best destinations in the Lower Peninsula for your first overnight adventure in which all that's needed is strapped to your back. The beaches along Platte Bay are legendary, even for the Gold Coast of Michigan.
