Located at the end of M-209 in Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore is Sleeping Bear Point Trail. Step-for-step few trails anywhere in Michigan are as interesting as this 2.8-mile sandy path that winds through open dunes pass excellent vantage points of the Manitou Passage. Don't underestimate this short hike. Walking in sand can be strenuous and in the middle of the summer. But this trek is not nearly as long or strenuous as the nearby Dunes Trail that begins with the popular Dune Climb. And when Sleeping Bear Point Trail is combined with a visit to the park's Sleeping Bear Point Coast Guard Station Maritime Museum and a dip in the cooling waters of Lake Michigan after the hike, there isn't a better way for a family to spend an afternoon in the park. This map, produced by MichiganTrailMaps.com, includes: --10-foot contour lines --Location of the nearby Maritime Museum and ghost forest --Amenities icons that include swimming beaches, trailhead, scenic viewing points --Mileage flags marking the main trail and icons marking fishing platforms Along with photos, you can get a description of the trail from MichiganTrailMaps.com at https://www.michigantrailmaps.com/member-detail/sleeping-bear-dunes-sleeping-bear-point-trail
